If you’re looking for a destination that combines beach days, fun-filled activities and nights that become mornings dancing away in bustling clubs, then it doesn’t get much better than Playa del Carmen. I recently discovered this while staying in the heart of the action at the beautiful Marquee Playa Hotel.
The first thing that must be said about the Marquee Playa Hotel is that it really delivers on location. Many of the most famous Playa del Carmen attractions were visible from my balcony, and it was rarely more than a few minutes walk to the tourist hotspots such as the Coco Bongo Show & Disco, Quinta Alegria Shopping Mall and the 5th Avenue.
Perhaps best of all, the beautiful beach is just a three minute walk away, meaning you were never far from the sea, surf and sand.
Plus, with only twenty guest rooms, the Marquee Playa Hotel is a true boutique venue where there is a sense of privacy and intimacy throughout the hotel.
Stepping inside my guest room, I was immediately impressed by the modern and stylish ambience of the suite. Warm, neutral tones made the space feel inviting, while the furnishings added to the appeal.
The room was also quite spacious, with a charming balcony that offered views right over the bustling and colorful streets of Playa del Carmen. Despite the central location, once the balcony doors were closed it was peaceful and quiet in the room.
In particular, the Insta-worthy bathroom was a real highlight. With its marble floors and free-standing bathtub, it really brought the glitz and glamour to the space.
The Marquee Playa Hotel offers all of the features you’d expect from a luxury boutique hotel. The jewel in the hotel’s crown is the stylish rooftop, complete with sea views, a bar and an inviting swimming pool – both ideal for enjoying after a day visiting the local attractions.
I was also impressed by the extra touches on offer from the hotel. There’s a focus on hygiene in light of the pandemic, and rooms can be thoroughly cleaned on request.
In addition, extras such as late check out are available to ensure your stay at the hotel is just perfect.
Mexico is certainly a culinary delight, so I had high expectations for the meals from the hotel and its surrounding amenities. I was not disappointed!
Although I hadn’t opted for the breakfast-inclusive rate, I still decided to try it one morning and enjoyed a Mexican omelette on the chic rooftop. It was a delicious start to the day, and even with tips only came to around $8 USD – with free coffee included!
One evening I also stayed for dinner at the hotel, choosing the shrimp bowl from the menu. Unfortunately, this was a little salty for my tastes – however, my friend who had chosen the tacos raved about their flavor.
Unfortunately I did not get to try the Marquee’s other restaurant, Mirai, which offers a tantalising sushi menu. Instead, I opted to explore the options near the hotel – which were excellent.
Overall, the stylish Marquee Playa Hotel was ideally situated for enjoying the many delights of Playa del Carmen, and added touches including the glamorous bathroom certainly add to the appeal.
